GREEN LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS

So far, I thought I knew everything about forest pedagogy. Until I had met children with special needs. All my work and knowledge suddenly turned upside down. Now I know that I don't know anything. I'm still learning.

We have world's information at our fingertips; we can communicate with anyone; medicine is progressing, schools have the best equipment, etc. But at the same time:

There is an alarming escalation in the number of children who cannot fully function in this world. The number of children with special needs is rapidly increasing. What are the reasons for this situation? Can forest pedagogy influence on the development and learning of children with special needs? Why and how?

Through the workshop we will be presenting the pedagogical concept, potential therapeutic approaches in natural environments and practical activities in natural environments that are suitable for different groups of children with special needs.

Aims of the workshop:

  • Presentation of target groups – groups of children with special needs and their opportunities for inclusion in forest pedagogy activities.
  • To substantiate why the field of forest pedagogy is especially suitable for the learning and development of children with special needs.
  • Together with the participants, we will be testing activities for children with special needs in a natural environment.

The theoretical part of the workshop will be taking place indoors. The outdoor part of the workshop will be carried out in the forest near the hotel.

Number of participant: one class. Equipment required: forest shoes, open heart/mind and good mood.
