Our Forests, Our Future: Exploring the interdependence of people and forests around the world.

This workshop will compare a Scottish Pine Forest with an African Rainforest (Congo Basin) using the Scottish principles of Learning for Sustainability (Education for Sustainable Development, Global Citizenship and Outdoor Learning). Deforestation is the key issue and this is linked to other factors such as human, economic and environmental conditions. The workshop will use the resource:

Our Forest Our Future www.ourforestourfuture.org.uk/

The importance for forest pedagogy is to increase understanding about the complexities around deforestation and the fact that deforestation in Scotland is not a new event – we cleared our land of forest hundreds of years ago.

The activities, based on methodology used in the development education sector, encourage critical thinking about the knowledge gained in an interactive way.

Participants for this workshop should be prepared to be active both indoors and outdoors participating in the activities through discussion, feedback and fun.
